Requirements

• Fire door must have a label attached.

• Fire door must be self-latching

• Fire door preferred to be self-closer.

• If a fire door is held open; it must be equipped with a listed heat responsive device, fusible link or a smoke detection device.

• Fire door must be free of any obstruction which could prevent the door from operating property i.e. wedge door stops, chains, hook backs, floor holder.

• Only fire rated door hardware shall be used.

• Fire door must have steel bearing type hinges.

• Doors swinging in pairs that require astragals shall have at least one overlapping astragals. Pairs of door within a means of egress shall not be equipped with an astragal that inhibits the free use of either leaf. A coordinator or open back strike should be used to ensure proper closing.

• - Fire doors with glass lights:

  • - The glass frame and glazing bead must be metal

  • - The glass must be wire glass not less than 0.25 inch thick.

  • - Maximum allowable glass area:

  • - 1.5- hour 100 sq. in. per door leaf

  • - 3⁄4 hour 1296 sq.in.per light

  • - Fire doors with fusible link louvers

  • - Only listed louver can be used.

  • - Louvers can be furnished in 1 1⁄2 hour

  • - Maximum louver size is 24” X 24”
